ÆVENTIA • Identity and Branding
Little John
The setting is Nottinghamshire and closer still, Sherwood Forest, famed for its mythical associations. Named after the eponymous charater Little John, this very English client was seeking a new identity which reflected both their founding heritage and modern approach to luxury home fabrics and bedding.
We created the flowing LJ fletching and arrow head logo and Sherwood typeface as roots for the packaging, promotional literature and lighthearted shopfloor signage for their two store locations.

Bigg Books
Abstract ideas are some of the most challenging to visualise. Our identity for philosophy publisher Bigg Books flows with the heart and mind, the body and head, the in-breath and out-breath, the opening and closing, the internal and external.
A triptych of static logos was created for print and our kinetic web editions carefully match the rhythm of a human breath at rest.
Our heart and mind identity and Bigg typeface represent the first stage of rebranding for this client. We are now creating the initial set of six book jackets, the first of which is due to be published in August 2019.

HouseBook
When portraying the HouseBook philosophy, our intention was to design a 'character with personality'. Using light and shade we united a pitched roof and a book jacket, with the chimney helping to describe the ridge of the house and the spine of the book. We can now play with both real and virual members of this iconic family, helping us tell the ongoing HouseBook story.
Using sales data and client reviews, HouseBook matches property hunters with the most suitable local realtors. HouseBook then nurtures these relationships, helping to create homes for family and professionals. We undertook a complete rebranding as part of the expansion from their original base in New York City in the east, to Phoenix, Arizona on the west coast.

Safe Families for Children
When a crisis strikes a family with children, its effects can be devastating especially when there is nobody to help. Stabilising families before they reach breaking point is key to reducing the number of children in care. Sir Peter Vardy's award-winning charity, Safe Families for Children has benefitted over 5000 children since it was launched in the UK in 2013.
We created a fresh, child-friendly illustration style using line-drawn watercolour characters and clean typography for publicity, literature and web use. This approach was designed specifically for a charity looking for minimal overheads and a prompt response to changing events – in fact, we often prepare new characters and scenarios for release the following day. Over 100 individuals, groups, activities and objects now represent all areas of the charity's work.

The Philosopher
The Philosopher was established in 1923 is a peer-reviewed journal with the aim of providing a forum for new ideas across the entire range of philosophical topics. We were invited to become the cover illustrator by the new editor Anthony Morgan in 2019.
Drawing on the language of craft-based political and propaganda art, we will create minimalistic, block print images in two colours, complimented by the specially selected uncoated stock. Our first image appears on the Spring 2019 edition under the theme of Us vs. Them.

Amanda Johns
Imagine a single elegant leaf emerging from a forest of leaves. It was this idea of clarity arrising from confusion during hypnotherapy which formed the seed from which we grew Amanda Johns' identity. We painstakingly sourced just the right foliage lithograph which, when tinted with blacks, creams and muted blues, formed a backdrop to the A logo, which carries the single leaf.
Amanda runs a Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy practice in Berkshire, UK for which we created this clean, classic and intimate branding, reflecting her personal and natural approach.

Mother Nurture
"Mother Nurture hugs a child as a child would its mother." It was this simple phrase spoken by the client in the first moments of our initial meeting which inspired our cotton-hugging identity.
Echoing the logo we designed FSC packaging, literature and HUG promotional materials for this online retailer of premium organic cotton baby and children's bedding and clothes.

Falcon Engineering
When it comes to design and manufacture of precision engineering components, Falcon has a feather-light touch. The only specific request from this client was to incorporate their traditional gear motif in the new logo. We achieved this by emulating wing edges in our bird of prey silhouette.
Our designs for new foam-lined component packaging, stationery, literature and style guide are applied with textures designed to unite metals, composites and polymers with soft avian aerodynamics and the language of feathers and flight.

ÆVENTIA
Art Nouveau, peacock feathers and an Æ ligature were the keys to creating this elegant identity. The ÆVENTIA typography was influenced by Jazz Age fonts and over the course of the project, the design grew more refined as gold and silver were introduced which, wherever possible, are printed using metallic inks. The client loved our suggestion of a retrograde rotation for her web icon.
Based in London and founded by Rhuna Barduagni, ÆVENTIA is one of the capitals leading events organisers. ÆVENTIA offer a range of event-related services in the UK and Italy including high-profile networking events, exclusive parties and memorable leisure experiences.
